So sorry to hear about Tom. We were like brothers for about 3 or 4 years in our years of grade school (Precious Blood).
We’d play tag (running) games in his back yard on Lillian St. with his sisters. We use to go under the bridges over the rivers downtown and talk to the homeless. Then, there was our singing (great echoes under those bridges), we would try to duplicate the 50’s and 60’s music (Everly Brothers, Righteous Brothers, The Cascades etc.)
Tom was a strong boy and not afraid of anybody or anything. Proud veteran who was in the thick of it. May God give his family and many friends peace and strength, now, and the days ahead. RIP BROTHER.
With sympathy
Uncle Tom was so generous. He would always do things like pick up the tab, and give things away. He would always share his knowledge too. Anytime I would cook something, he was sure to tell me exactly how to do it, and why. He was actually quick to give advice on about every subject. I will miss seeing him and hearing his little comments and jokes that Aunt Carol didn’t think was funny. Lol. I’m glad you are at peace now. Until we meet again…
Marine Corps League Detachment #1435 Pride and Purpose Fort Wayne extends our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers to Carol, family and friends. Tom was not a member of our Detachment, but he was a Marine. Tom, you stand relieved. We have your watch. Rest easy, Marine. Fair winds and following seas. Semper Fidelis.
Tom, such fond memories of you and my Indiana family. So many years from being so young and full of life and trips to family gatherings in Indiana to King’s Island Park with our children to coming to visit in MA to see your big brother and family. So much fun! So much love shared by all of us. Memories of your Mother and Grama Schone and a big and loving family and brothers and sisters. Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful! Yes, I will become Dr. Anderson and yes I will continue to remember my Indiana family forever and ever.
Carol, I am so very sorry. He loved you and you loved him, and he will be missed and you were the “good wife” and partner and friend and whatever else Tom Whitner needed you were but you always stayed strong and independent and just wonderful too.
Margaret, Rita, Alice, Robert, and Bernadine – I am so very sorry for your loss. Remember his courage above all else.
Here’s to you Tom Whitner from your sister-in-law Christine
