Robert “Bob”
Gallaway
Obituary
Robert “Bob” Gallaway passed away peacefully at home on Little Gasparilla Island, Florida, on Monday, May 4, 2020, at the age of 80 with his wife, Jean, at his side. Bob was born on August 11, 1939, to Doyt and Rosemary Gallaway in Van Wert, Ohio. He grew up on the family farm, involved in 4-H and Future Farmers of America. Bob graduated from Ohio State University in 1961 with a degree in Agricultural Economics. After college, he began working for Central Soya as a Sales Representative in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 1995, he accepted a management position with the feed division of Hubbard Milling Company in Mankato, Minnesota. This was the start of a second career in agribusiness that he truly loved and enjoyed. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed Vice President of U.S. Operations of Ridley Canada Limited after their acquisition of Hubbard, and he went on to lead Ridley’s Australian division for several years. Bob was very proud to serve on the boards of the American Feed Industry Association and the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative. He ultimately retired as the CEO of Ridley Inc. in 2005 after 40 years’ experience in the North American and international feed industry. Bob inspired his colleagues, and always managed his teams with the idea of doing the right thing. Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean; three children, Nan Hartup of West Chester, Ohio; Aaron of Butler, Indiana; and Erik (Dawn) of Huntertown, Indiana. Also surviving is his sister, Jayne Lyons, of La Quinta, California, and grandchildren, Nick and Emily Hartup, Tyler (Paige) Gallaway, and great-grandchildren, Kinnley, Kyler, and Korbyn Gallaway. Due to the COVID virus, we will not be able to gather together in celebration of Bob’s life. We hope you will raise a toast to Bob and celebrate his well-lived life as you remember him. Memorials may be made to Mankato Elks, Mankato Kiwanis, and Heifer International. Burial will take place at Ridge Cemetery near Van Wert, Ohio.

Sorry to learn of Bob passing. I remember him taking me along with Aaron and Eric to Indy. I remember a lot of his words of wisdom and encouragement.
While in high school in Ft. Wayne, I used to visit Aaron and his parents at their home on Covington Road. Bob and Jeanne treated me like family. Occasionally Aaron and I would visit his uncle Ronald in Ohio City and help with chores around the farm…..Great times

Jeanne and Nan, my deepest condolences for you and the rest of your family. I remember being so welcomed in your home as a teenager back in Fort Wayne and being in awe of the beautiful home and hospitality you and Bob provided–the best hosts any party could have…besides, maybe my Mom, Carol 😉 When I think of Bob, I remember him and Ray weaving their stories and laughing at each other’s jokes–so many years of wonderful friendship. It’s a rare treasure to have a couple-friendship where both spouses just click. Yours was a sweet marriage to witness. Fond memories. Love to you all. May God bless and keep you and soothe your hurting hearts, Carrie

Dear Jeanne and Family. Thank you for this opportunity to greet you and share in your loss of a dear guy. Bob’s engaging personality and being the generous host at your lovely home by the river are among our fond memories. For today and the many tomorrows we wish you peace to bring you comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to hold forever in your heart. With deepest sympathy, in friendship, and sisterly love,
Jean, Our sincere condolences to you & your family. We’ll be sure to raise a toast to Bob the next time we’re at Olives.
What a great man — so smart, yet always “of the people”! Great laugh. I cherished the times I could interview him on the radio, or meet with him over coffee at the Wagon Wheel. To his beautiful wife, Jeanne, my Jeanne and I loved sharing social time with you two, and we miss you and send our condolences. Peter Steiner
Jeanne, you and Bob always treated me like family. Nelson and I both have very fond memories of him. He was certainly one of the finest bosses I worked for. We were both very saddened of his passing. Our condolences to you and your family. I will always remember him as a dear friend.
Bob was a popular member of the “lunch bunch” who met regularly for lunch at the round table at the Downtown Holiday Inn in Mankato. HIs wife, Jean, often joined us. The table is gone but not the fun memories.

Jean, It’s been several years since our days at Centenary, but I have wonderful memories of dinners in your home, and conversations about family and church and the world. You and Bob made great host and hostess! Bob and I were in Kiwanis together. Love to you, now and always. Dean Wolf
We were sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. Susan and I were backyard neighbors of Bob and Jeanne in the late 1990’s. After work , Bob would come outside and walk about the yard, inspecting the trees and plants. Sometimes, Mike or I would join him and learn about the information of the day. He was also our building inspector as we completed a house project across the street. We learned about wine and Scotch from Jeanne and Bob. 🥰. He will be missed by many. Sue and Mike Zarn.
