Obituary
Nancy Louise Batchelder, 76, died on April 19, 2019 at Parkview Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a sudden and unexpected illness. She was born on February 15, 1943 to the late Raymond and Faye (Trobridge) Myers in Portland, Indiana. She graduated from Portland High School in 1961, then moved to Fort Wayne, where she met Larry Batchelder. Larry and Nancy were married in May of 1964 and started a large and loving family. Nancy was the mother of five sons and grandmother to seven (two of whom were girls, much to her delight). She worked at Superior Collision in Fort Wayne more than thirty years, never retiring. Nancy loved coffee, black licorice, and had to have yogurt every morning for breakfast. She adored her family and loved nothing more than her children and grandchildren coming over for dinner and board games. She always ensured that her home was full of love and laughter for anybody who may come over. Her home will always be remembered as loud, loving, and hilarious (and a little competitive on those game nights). Nancy and Larry traveled much over the years. They visited almost every state in the United States together and traveled across Europe together. She loved going to Las Vegas, to the Grand Canyon, and to wherever her oldest grandchildren may have moved to. She valued experiencing as many places as she could (and winning as much as she could at the casino). Surviving are her husband Larry of Fort Wayne; sons Randy (Brandie), Chris, and Andy (Michelle), all of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Alicia, Cody, Riley, Rayanna, Wyatt, and Emmett, and her brother, Ronald, of Portland, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Nancy lived through more than her share of loss in her life. She was preceded in death by her two sons, David and Gary Batchelder, one grandson, Jacob Batchelder, and by her older brother, Bill Myers, who died just one week before her. Somehow, Nancy knew how to pick herself up and keep going through life, even when she was living through the unimaginable. She was comforted by knowing that she would see her loved ones again and that they lived on through her and the rest of her family. Her loved ones will forever carry her love, laughter, and sense of joy in their hearts. No batch of cookies will ever be the same not made by Nana B. Funeral Ceremony will be 12:00 pm, Friday, April 26, 2019 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 25, 2019, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm & Friday, April 26, 2019, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorial contributions may be made to Erin’s House for Grieving Children.
