Obituary
Lisa K. Wetzel, 67, of Fort Wayne passed away after a lengthy battle with myelofibrosis on November 16th, 2023 at Stillwater Hospice. Lisa was born on February 27th, 1956 in Fort Wayne to the late Paul and Doris Klage. She was a devoted mother, wife, grand-mère and child of God. Lisa is survived by her husband of 41 years, Patrick Wetzel; son, Joseph (Rachel) Wetzel; daughter, Abigail (Christian) Puls; four grandsons Sidney, Julian, and Maxwell Wetzel and Isaiah Puls; and her siblings Bill (Linda) Klage and Tom (Ellen) Klage.
Lisa graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in 1974, and obtained a masters in social work from Indiana University, Bloomington. She was a passionate educator, serving children through her work for Specialty Tutoring in Fort Wayne for more than two decades. Lisa was a loving homemaker while raising Abby and Joe, and previously worked at DTC in Bloomington, Indiana serving autistic youth.
Lisa loved spending time with her family, cooking and celebrating, especially at the holidays. She enjoyed music, particularly playing Christmas carols on her piano. Lisa loved to travel and camp, was an avid reader, and was a devoted pet parent. She lived a life of faith and passed her love of Christ on to her family. She was an active and long-standing member of Saint Michael’s Lutheran Church. We thank God for our time with Lisa and for the memories she left us. She will be missed tremendously.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 22nd at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Lisa will be buried at Concordia Cemetery Gardens on Lake Avenue. Lisa showed Christs’ love to all she met, human or animal. Dear Abby, Joe, and Pat,
Lisa was always pleasant to be around. Her genuineness made an indelible difference to me and to those she taught.
She often spoke fondly of each of you… the Concordia pole vaulter and student, the IU student, and the Woodside teacher and coach come to mind — another example of her genuinely refreshing disposition.
I’m so sorry for your loss and pray for your comfort and peace now and in the time ahead.
Our hearts are heavy with sadness for the loss of a wonderful mother, wife, and friend. We pray that God will give you and your family strength and comfort in this difficult time.
We plant this tree in love and remembrance of Lisa Wetzel.
We are so sorry for your loss! Praying for you and thinking about you everyday! We love you so much!!
