Obituary
Joyce E. Steiner, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt passed away peacefully at the family farm, surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 16, 2023, to join her Heavenly Father. As the matriarch of her family, she set an example of strength and faith throughout her life. She was a devout Catholic who shared her passion for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and lifelong devotion to Mother Mary to all of those in her life. Joyce cherished her family and spent her life pouring her heart and soul into their care through the love she shared, the meals she prepared, her sincerity with gifts and homemade cards, homemade cakes and breads for special occasions and holidays. Her family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers were very well cared for by Joyce and her thoughtfulness.
Joyce was born in Chicago, IL, February 17, 1941, to John and Martha Scheckel. She attended Little Flower Catholic School and graduated from Our Lady’s Academy. Joyce moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1974 to run a restaurant alongside her brothers, Steve and Ron. She moved to Sun City, Arizona in 1992 where she and her husband, Pete Steiner travelled throughout the western United States. Following Pete’s death, she returned to Fort Wayne and was a successful salesperson. Once Joyce chose to retire from her sales career, she accepted a role with Home Depot where she spent 20 years helping customers and providing candy to all the children that crossed her path.
Joyce was blessed with the gift of art and created many pieces throughout her life. She also had an eye for seeing beauty in her surroundings. She shared this love with her family and taught her grandchildren how to draw. She was a natural designer, having an appreciation for fashion and decorating, which is continued and shared throughout her family.
Joyce will continue to be honored by her family she leaves behind, her children; Deborah (Joe) Perez, Linda Grant, John (Cindy) Grant, Daughter-in-law Erin (Jason) Lenardson; Grandchildren, Thomas, Cecelia (Robert), Andrea, Alena, Marissa (Randy), Carter, Quinn, Tucker, Claudia, Petey, Noah (Ciana), Jacob, KaMaya (Xavier), KaMari, Tony, Cruz, Neysa, Oaklee, Aviana, Micah, Amelia, Naomi and Emelia. Deb and family, John and family and all, please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mom, my cousin Joycie. I have many happy memories of the times she (and you!) visited our farm in Michigan and brought so much fun our way. My parents, her Aunt Betty and Uncle Phil, simply thought the world of her. There is a special place in heaven for her, reunited with all those we love who have gone on before. You will all be in my prayers. with love, Kathy
Dear John and Cindy and Family,
May your many memories and faith provide you and your family with comfort and peace at the loss of Grahamcrackers.
Peace, Love and Prayers,
Matt and Ronda Lehn

My beloved friend of 21 years! Joyce was like a mother to me and full of great advice! She was so funny made me laugh so hard I could cry sometimes! We shared the love of Art, children and talking! I could never get enough of the stories of her life! She loved her mama and she loved her Irish daddy who was a police officer in Chicago! She told me that Pete was her greatest love and why. He was so good to her! She loved her job designing ads for the Yellow Pages of phone books and working for voting registration. She loved life! I loved it when Joyce would come to my home. Sometimes she would bring her grandchildren and let them play on my little mini Farm! As many of them as there were she never hesitated to bring them all and we both so enjoyed watching the chidren run and play in the yard with the chickens! Joyce and I ran the phone center at Home Depot. We were a team and we’re proud of ourselves. I learned so many life lessons from Joyce, good morals, Direction and understanding. She taught me that when I wrap a present that the package was as important as the present! Dear God, Receive my friend with open arms and place her by your side. That I may one day join her once again. I know she is with her family and her friends and finally at peace. Thank… Read more »
