Obituary
Jovana K. Scott, 80, of Fort Wayne passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at home surrounded by family. Joy was born November 3, 1940 in Wells County, IN to the late Lyle and Mary Jayne Crandall. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She graduated from Bluffton High School in 1958. After her first child was born she quit working and became a homemaker. Joy was a stay at home mother for her children until her youngest started school. She started working again as a dental assistant. When her children started class at St. Joseph Catholic Church Joy taught CCD classes. She was an excellent seamstress making clothes for her children. She would make leisure outfits and formal attire for that era. Her matching outfits for Kari and herself were beautiful. For many years, she made quilts and Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. When her sons were old enough for scouting, she became a den mother and was pack leader for many of the boys in the neighborhood. Joy was excellent at taking care of her family. She loved to can and freeze foods for future need. When the kids were on their own, she retired but could not just relax. She had to be doing something all the time. Joy never wanted to miss her grandchildren's sporting events. She made those events her priority. When she wasn't canning or freezing she got involved in crafting. One of her favorite hobbies was basket weaving. Joy could just look at a picture and then weave the basket to match the picture. Not only did she weave the basket but she painted scenes by free hand on many of them. Joy is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Allan; children, Kipp (Linda) Scott of Lajunta, CO, Kirt (Dina) Scott of Houston, TX, and Kari (Joel) Emley of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Gary (Sharon) Crandall of Elwood, IN. Funeral Service will be private. Visitation will be held Monday, December 28, 2020 from 3 – 4 pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne. Face covering required. Inurnment will be in the Oratory of St. Mary Magdalene at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Joy was my older cousin that I always admired. I thought she was so beautiful and I always wanted to be like her. I was in the 8th grade when she was married and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding. I felt so grown up. Thank you Joy for many fond memories. Allen please know that you and the family will be our thoughts and prayers.
Our condolences at the death of Joy. So sorry for your loss and for our grandsons too.
