Obituary
Dennis Joseph Hatfield, 84, of Fort Wayne, went to meet Our Lord, February 7, 2018, at home, surrounded by his family. Denny was born August 26, 1933, in Roanoke, IN, to the late Paul and Nellie (Landrigan) Hatfield. He served our country in the U S Navy Seabees. Denny was a superintendent with Weigand Construction and Schenkel & Sons for many years. He was a member of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Carpenters Local 232 for 65 years, Holy Name Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Old Fort Model A Club. Denny was also a member of the 1950 Central Catholic State Champion football team. He received the Fort Wayne Notre Dame Club “Man of the Year” award in 1993. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanette Vodde Hatfield; sons, Christopher (Linda) Hatfield of South Bend, IN, Greg (Rita) Hatfield of Glen Ellyn, IL, Matt Hatfield of Fort Wayne, IN, and Mark (Megan) Hatfield of Baltimore, MD; daughters, Jackie (Dan) Tippmann, Maggie (Sam) Schenkel and Liz (Kevin) Sorg, all of Fort Wayne, IN and Jenny (Mike) Richelsen of Chaska, MN; 27 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Denny was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert and Bernard Hatfield; sisters, Doris Phlipot and Jean Robison. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Monday, February 12, 2018, at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd with calling one hour prior. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 11, 2018, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne with a rosary at 4:30 pm. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorial contributions may be made to St Vincent dePaul Society or Masses.
