I’m very sorry to read that Barbara has passed away.
I met her and John and the other Steenports in 1996 in Chilton, Wisconsin at the Steenport/Steenepoorte reunion party, when I visited the Steenports in the USA together with my cousin Jack.
I saw the picture of the reunion party in the video and it brought back hearthwarming memories to me.
Barbara and John were very kind and helpfull. We shared stories about our families in the USA and the Netherlands and she gave me new data for the Steenepoorte/Steenport/Steinport-familybook I was working on.
My condolences to the Steenport-family.
My thoughts and prayers are with You.

FROM LAURA: Grandma was the embodiment of so many values I hold dear – spending time with family, enjoying good food and appreciating the humor in everyday life. From her undivided attention to big bear hugs, I always deeply felt her love. She has given me a lifetime of wonderful memories so that every time I play a game, prepare a meal or enjoy a drink at happy hour, I will carry her with me.
FROM GRANT: I coincidentally came across a quote today from Simone Weil,
“Attention, taken to its highest degree, is the same thing as prayer. It presupposes faith & love. Absolutely unmixed attention is prayer.”
I immediately thought of Barb when I read this. If there’s one thing she would always give you – beyond a welcome hug and a warming smile – was her attention. And from there, the faith & love just came naturally.
John, I am so sorry for your loss. We will be praying for you this week in our family prayer.
In Christ,
Kelly & Chris Ley and family
With our deepest sympathy
John: So sorry to hear of the passing of Barb. You and your family have our deepest sympathy and our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sue – sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom. I’m sure you have many cherished memories to help you through this time. Julie
So sorry for your loss! Praying for your family during this hard time!
John: Lynn & I are so saddened for your loss. Sorry that we cannot be there since we are in Florida. We can remember all the good times and laughter when we were all together. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Our condolences to John and family.
