Obituary
Martha Jane Zuber, 96, passed away October 28, 2023 after a sudden illness. Born June 22, 1927, to Leo J. and Ursula F. Wolfe in Fort Wayne, she was a longtime Fort Wayne resident who retired in 1985 to her Hamilton Lake home. She moved to assisted living at Lutheran Life Villages on S. Anthony Blvd. in 2019. She grew up in St. Peter’s Catholic parish and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, class of 1945. She married Kenneth V. Zuber, a World War II veteran who worked at the International Harvester plant here, in 1947. He preceded her in death. She worked for Sears Roebuck and for the City of Fort Wayne, from which she retired. Her family was centrally important to her. She welcomed them and their friends generously to her lake home, where her love of gardening, her cats and feeding people turned many a friend into family. Her rhubarb cake is the stuff of legend, her “green stuff” infamous, and all her recipes are now treasured by the people she shared them with. Martha was an avid IU basketball fan and also passed her love of games to her family. A consummate strategist, she will be remembered for shark-like moves on the Chinese Checkers board, deep knowledge of the Mahjong rule book and cool expertise with a deck of cards or handful of dice. She was active in several social clubs in Hamilton and served on the board of the lake association. She is survived by her son Kim (Bev), her daughters-in-law Sara Zuber (widow of Mike) and Connie Haas Zuber (widow of Ken), 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Monday Nov. 6, 2023 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 518 E. DeWald St. with calling 1 hr. prior at the church. Calling also 4 to 6pm Sunday Nov. 5, 2023 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. with the Rosary at 3:30pm. Burial in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated to St. Peter’s Catholic Church or to its Endowment Fund.

Our warmest condolences!
Peace to the Zuber family. My memories of Mrs. Zuber as one of my teen mothers. She and Mr. Zuber welcomed all of us Luers kids to their lake home in 1970 during the summer of unrest in Fort Wayne. She would drive Kim, me and others to early track practice before the sun came up. On one trip, the Plymouth brakes weren’t working and she could drive that station wagon with one foot on the emergency brake.
Rest in peace.
Our sympathy to all the Zubers . Martha always made you feel like you were part of her family. She was a wonderful person , and will be sadly missed .
