Obituary
Marganelle Ruth (Applegate) Henry, 89, passed away peacefully in the early hours of August 6, 2018, in her family home. Born with a servant's heart in Yorktown, IN on May 31, 1929, Margie dedicated herself to the care of others. She attended both North Side and Central Catholic High Schools in Fort Wayne where she loved working on the yearbooks and where she made many lifelong friends. It was at a CYA dance where she met the man to whom she'd be forever devoted, Jerome Francis Henry. Margie was beautiful and creative, and though she modeled briefly and longed to go to art school, her whirlwind romance (including a toboggan date at Pokagon State Park) took center stage and Margie and Jerry were wed on August 20, 1949, at St. Jude Catholic Church. And so began Margie's lifelong legacy of love. A seamstress, a painter, and a poet, her proudest creations were her 11 sons and 6 daughters, none of whom can imagine a world without her. Margie's entire life was a labor of love, and in her memory, we ask that you love and care for your friends as well as strangers, your families and yourselves. Left to live up to her legacy of love are her children, Jerome F. Henry, Jr. (Becky), Thomas (Cindy), Paula Bentley (Bill), Tony (Susan), Andrea Navarro (Ramon), Denise Wenzel (Bill), Erik, Matthew (Anne), Martin (Vicki), Kurt, Karl, Sonya Witte, Louis (Brenda), Christopher (Carolyn), Lisa Canada (Mark), and Jessica. She adored all of her 55 grandchildren and 95 great grandchildren who will cherish her memory. Surviving also are her siblings Marney Shaffer, and Michael (Judy) and Bill (Kathy) Applegate as well as her in-laws Morton Henry and Carol Venderley. In addition to these, she'll be missed by her trusted companion cats, Fritz and Boo and her loyal dog, Baxter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emery and Genevieve Applegate; her treasured big brother, Cam Applegate; beloved son-in-law, John Witte; adored grandchildren Paul Michael Navarro and Maria Henry; and her dear son, Timothy Henry. Best of all, she has been reunited with her cherished husband of 59 years, Jerry, who died in 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 10, at 10:30 AM at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 1515 Barthold Street, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Visitation will be Thursday, August 9 from 2-8PM at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne. Burial at the Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Allen County SPCA or Miss Virginia's would be greatly appreciated. Finally, the family wishes to acknowledge four very important people in Margie's life: Jonilda Blair, Daisy Malcolm, Samantha Sharlach and Tammi Vachon. These women cared for our mother as if she were their own for many years, and we are forever grateful to them for their love and devotion to our Mom.

Thinking of all of the wonderful Henry family during this difficult time. I was so glad that I got to met Margie and Jerry, what a lovely couple, and what a legacy for Fort Wayne.
I offer my condolences and prayers for the entire Henry Family. Mrs Henry, requiescat in pace.
Please accept my deepest condolences. My heart goes out to all of your friends and family; please be comforted by the fact that there could rarely be a life more fulfilling.
My condolences to the family. You were blessed with the best possible role model to follow.
My brother, Kevin sent a copy of the Journal Gazette article about Marge with the message, “another great mom passed away”. Our mom died on Christmas this past year. Marge was indeed a “another great mother”. Wishing all of you blessings as you collectively take on the mantle you have inherited from two wonderful parents.
My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. May God give you the peace that you seek and may her legacy of love live on in all those she has inspired.
Please accept our deepest sympathy.
It is never easy losing a loved one but it is comforting to know the love that Marganelle had for all her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. All of us at the Buckeye family wish you sincere condolences
I’ve been thinking of my childhood and the time spent at the Henry household. Mrs. Henry being a big and loving part of those memories. Godspeed Mrs. Henry. Your calling on earth is finished and now its time to watch from Heaven.
