Obituary
George C. Sowles III, 67, of New Haven, died Friday May 12, 2023 at Parkview Randallia Hospital. He was born in Fort Wayne on November 2, 1955, the son of (the late) George C. Sowles, Jr. and Kathryn (Oakley) Sowles Mason. George married Diana (Cain) Sowles on November 30, 1985 in St. James Lutheran Church; she survives after 37 years of marriage. George was employed by the City of New Haven in the Utilities Dept. George was an avid sports fan; he especially enjoyed NASCAR and Colts football. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and spending their winters in Ft. Myers Beach FL. In addition to his wife Diana, George is also survived by sons, Andy (Elizabeth) Sowles, Jay Sowles, Corey Sowles and their families; step-daughter, Jennifer Swanson; step-mother, Pat Borquart; grandchildren, Kailah, Shelby and Caleb Sowles; brothers, David Sowles and Stephen Sowles; half-brother, Bobby Monhollen; half-sister, Monica McKinley; step-brothers, Alan Cook and Paul Cook; step-sister, Kathy Dierk and longtime close friend, Phil Barnes. In addition to his parents, George was also preceded in death by brothers, Kevin Sowles and Scott Sowles; his sister, Connie; step-son, Shawn Swanson and step-brother, Steven “Bear” Cook. There are no services currently scheduled. Burial will take place in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven, at a later date. Arrangements through Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. Memorials may be directed to his family.

George always had a smile on his face and a joke to make you laugh. His knowledge of the City of New Haven’s infrastructure was so valuable. You will be missed!

So sorry to hear of George’s passing. He never knew a stranger and was certainly cherished by so many. Prayers and hugs to all. Rest in peace George you will be missed.
